TV's are they really worth scrapping?

    Hey yall,
I have been scrapping for a while but I have to admit I, well my partner and I have been leaving the tv's where they sit! I am wondering if they are worth the time or Not? I know I could grab them for weight but is there some other hidden value I am un aware of?

If you have a means of ditching (recycling) the carcass, there is a few dollars worth of copper in each one for just a few minutes work.

i second what Parrothead says, half the issue with TV's is getting rid of them after harvesting

also avoid cheap branded TV's very little goodness, just a big plastic box that takes up space!

My recycling drop center will take the plastic for free, but I am searching around to see if I can find somewhere to sell the plastic. If anybody knows of a place, let me know.

I broke down 3 monitors this past weekend and was surprised at the amount of copper in them things. I was even talking to one of the computer repair man and he says that if Im interested, he can supply me with enough monitors to keep me busy for a long time.

The only problem I find is where to dispose of the glass, with DEP all up in arms with the lead issue, Im afraid that it may be more trouble than good.

Im STILL knuckle deep in monitors/tv's. My dump will take the tubes, as long as they're "broken down" Basically, i smash them up in the bed of my truck, and they then process the glass. Just goes with their Hazardous Waste.

Also, CMHN, if you can get yer plastic to Idaho, theirs a yard, United Metals LLC that buys "hard plastic" (tv plastic, printers, fax machines, etc) for .1 cent a pound. Thats the only buyer i'm aware of.

I broke down 2 monitors today, the first 2 I have ever done. I ended up with 1lb 14.5 ozs of clean copper, a bunch of insulated wire, some aluminum, some shred metal and a couple of low grade boards. Not sure it was worth it. I also now have 2 CRT's that I need to dispose of. I have pics, just need to upload

Don't forget that the A/V cable from the monitor to the back of the PC. The wire that screws into the tower, when you strip this wire a lot of times the wires underneath are sheathed with braided copper.

i have scrapped a few tv's since I started scrapping last week. I take out all of the goodies and close them back up and they go to the curb for bulk day pickup ( Can leave 4 out each thursday.) I have noticed that the empty tv's disappear before the garbage gets collected. Wonder who picks them up haha.

BAHAHAHA holy cow. Funny story, actually. Some drunk followed me into a corner store, started hootin' an hollerin' at me about how im drivin' like a "jack a$$". His wife got in my face an started yellin'. He said "go ahead, say somethin' to her" I asked "why, so you can hit me?" He said "no, so i can shoot ya" Then brandished a colt 45.

Cops showed up with his right arm broken, behind his back and my knee in his spine. I threw the gun about 40 feet the other direction. I tell ya what, THAT was an adrenaline rush.

....And that's my random story o' the night.
