When it spins fast enough it turns into a black hole.Magic!
I hate that when it happens,,,when I removed the pump I found one of my underwires for one of my bras.

The felt seals on the ends of the drum start to wear out after a few years. The gap created in the worn seals is where the coins and other treasures slide through and fall into the bottom of the dryer.
The older (80s and 90s) Whirlpool\Kenmore dryers with the small kick plate at the bottom below the door score the best for coins. I call them "piggy bank" dryers. You can get to the coins easily even if you dont plan on breaking down the whole dryer. Just pry the top of the kick plate loose by sliding a putty knife or flat screwdriver along the top of the plate. This will release the top and the plate will "hinge" down out of the way.
My 4 year old loves digging the coins out of these types of dryers.
I fixed appliances for a thrift store many years ago. We used to go out in the "bone yard" and collect coins. I remember I got like $67 in three hours one time doing it.
Great Post! Here too... We find change every single time!!!

My cousin gave me a dryer a while back....didn't notice till I was breaking down that he had cut the chord. $@# So I sent him a e-mail telling him I was bringing the dryer back cause he cut the chord, I only found one dollar and forty two cents and no expensive jewelry !!
Scrapped a dryer yesterday, first one for me other than fixing my own. For anyone thats interested here was the results were on an older Amana HD Dryrer I scavenged out of a ditch.

Auction Houses. Make friends with a local auctioneer. If you have working appliances and a good auction house you can get nearly retail out of clean looking working appliances, and don't have to mess with Craigslist!
I found one gold ear ring, two silver studs & one diamond in dryer yesterday.
If the drum paddles come off check them found several coins under and inside them on the last dryer I scrapped.
yeah i love dryers, i always find a few pieces of change, best ever was over 11 bucks, in change and a 5 dollar bill. one of the ladies i work with gave it to me, she said if her husband would'nt empty his pockets, she would'nt either.
