I just wrote an article on a great phone app that can help you get to scrap on Craigslist first. In my house its refered to as the scrap alarm.

I have this on my android. Best dang app ever! I also use it in the Garage Sale section as well.

Most times, people are just trying to give away the stuff, but do attempt to sell them first.

I email them, telling them that if they have no takers, just give me a buzz. Works sometimes.
