My new fairly local mode of scrap location

Hey guys how it goin. I figured I would share my new idea of aquiring cans and small bits of scrap around where I live. I recently picked up a small luggage rack for a bike. I plan on mounting to my bike. I figured since I live in the country (and people constantly throw out old beer cans and such) around where I live. that this would make a good way to make a little bit while riding around with my wife. Im going to attach a milk crate or something to it so as we go I can pick up what I find. prolly wont make much but hey its an incentive to exercise lol. Plus I live less than a mile from the lake, and people are always coming and going. what do ya'll think.

A Ali can weighs 15grams. 100 cans = 1.5Kg, = NZ$1.50. - 1.5Kg cans is 3 1/3Lbs.

3 1/3Lbs cans = US$1.20 per 100 cans.

(sorry about the mixed metric, we use metric here, but also work in Imperial for measurements - NZ$1.00 = US$0.80cents)

I do think you can make $ from it IF you don't spend any $ doing it. Make a 3 foot stick with a nail in the end to pick up the cans.
Don't squash the cans flat, just check them by shaking, then squeeze the sides in so they touch, then bin it.

Flat cans don't keep their shape when they squash/cube them in their press, it falls apart & causes them a lot more work.
For something thats labour intensive it can ruin their profit.
Don't 'add weight' to the cans, its pretty **** obvious when they pick up the bag of cans, if you do, & they do, your rooted.
Guinness beer cans have a round plastic ball in them.
Deodorant cans (you will find them) are mostly Ali with a steel top part, remove it with pliers & chuck the can in. Use a magnet to check them.

They are spray deodorant cans, Impulse & Lynx etc.

Just grip the edge with the pliers & peel it back over the nozzle & pop the top part off.
I put all my used kitchen Ali foil into them & chuck them into the Ali cans.

Even if you don't make a lot of money you can feel good about exercising, spending time with your wife, and cleaning the environment. I hope you make a lot of money at it though.

It's called a widget. Not a new Zealand thing and not just Guiness either, all canned draught beers will have a widget in. They release loads of small bubbles into the beer to make it frothy and taste creamier.

Common for us 'warm beer drinkers' However, although i prefer the ales i still like them cold -a sin to many people here lol

here in Canada cans are worth $0.05/each and beer bottles are $0.10/each..

My girlfriend and I spent an hour one day picking up cans on a road notorious for people drinking and tossing their cans out the window. At the end of the hour, we netted about $20. About $2 was from a mix of $.05 refund cans and cans we scrapped for aluminum, $3 because we found two brake rotors, and finally $15 from a half scratched lottery ticket that happened to be a winner. So on your travels be sure to look out for other goodies as well.

I saw a picture of a guy who made a small trailer for his bike, I think that would be better if you have the engineering skill to do something like that. I live in Vegas and one time me and my friend were working at the LV Speedway. After the race was over we walked up and down the bleachers and collected all the cans. Made alot of money off of that, If you have any kind of sports stadium where you live this is a really good way to make money and most of the time they wont care if you come in after the event is over and help them clean up. They would rather have you do it for free than have to pay their workers to do it. I figured out it takes about 32 12oz cans (normal sized) to make a lb so take the price you get for alum cans, here it's .55 currently and divide it by 32. .55/32= about .017 cents for each can more if its a bigger can for beer or energy drinks.
