    Hold Everything!!!!!!!!!!!

Hold everything you've got. Light iron, copper, brass, aluminum.... all of it.

A local dealer told me 75% of scrap markets rely on guys like us who drive around picking stuff up in town. If WE hold all of it, there is no choice but for them to RAISE prices.

We control the market, and the dealers need us more than we need them. I'm looking at selling wood logs to make ends meet until the dealers come around.

    Peace, love and scrap.

    Well said ScumMetal!
This is like "Occupy the Scrap Yard".
Who can hold the collected metals until the prices start going up is in the right direction. The problem is for the ones that have no space where to deposit them for a long time and sell them for better prices.

I have stopped actively buying from local scrappers as most of the time they have no idea what their wire is really worth. I also stopped buying from the yards as they all want to wait until copper hits $5 a pound. Now I have China and Europe sending me wire because they are having trouble getting rid of it there.

Perhaps, I am missing something, but why would you stop buying just because someone doesn't take the time to find out how much their scrap is? They are still wanting to sell it.

I have not stopped buying. I have just stopped actively going after the general public business. I have built my business without ever having to speak to a contractor or scrapper. It was only recently that I made the decision to try and tap the market. What I have found is that they are not willing to sell unless I am willing to pay something outrageous like $4 a pound for mixed wire. I will just sit back and enjoy my corporate clients and if someone from the general public comes a calling I will be happy to listen to them and perhaps buy from them.

Just the thought of not having to deal with the general public would make me happy. I always get some jackass who's trying to beat me up on price when they bring in 150lb of tin, blocking the entrace of a 50yard truck loaded. The public scares me sometimes

Himmmmmm...... Typically I am very protective of showing my operation however, perhaps I could make a small video for the people here. I wish I could say I am 60,000 square feet but I am able to do everything I need to with about 4,000 square feet.

Sims is an Australian company, Was Sims metal, then Sims group, then the bought / merged we a US mob called Metal Management a few years back. They are the worlds biggest i think?

I remember reading somewhere they run over 200 yards around the world..

In NZ the bought out Pacific Metals who had like 6 yards or so?
