40 ft flatbed aluminum

Got a question. I stumbled across a 40 ft flatbed with tandem axles. I know I'm going have to cut it up obviously to fit my truck/trailer, but what is it considered?

Extruded, sheet? This baby only steel I see is tandems and dollies. Rest is aluminum. Like the I-beams, etc.



What you think? Sawzall with demo blade and generator? Any size requirements for the yard or would they take the entire deck as long as it is clean.....? Any ideas on weight? Shipping weight is 9450. So Im guessing 2000 lbs for dollies and tandems. So 7000 clean aluminum sound right?

Problem is it is a 40 ft. No longer made and cant haul full gross like 42,500 or so. Can only haul 2/3 of that , so useless to most drivers. So he cant sell it and needs the money real quick. This is alternative. Scrap day or 2, he gets the cash he needs and I make some. There is actually nothing wrong with the trailer sadly.

This is a big truck trailer. Do you have a spare Freightliner around to pull it? Hell can you afford 7 mpg plus tags, right of way, fuel tax, and commercial insurance...let alone a cdl and physical to run it? Not feasible unless you own a yard. If I needed it and had the cash to burn I sure as hell wouldn't be running the trash route tonight.

I think thats the confusion. This is a BIG truck trailer. Not a little p/u trailer, but a real big truck trailer with dual tandems and air bags. Guy owns a biz and must be needing real FAST cash. Title is in hand. I may call my local yard and see what they think about me pulling it. And then using the exacavtor to pull the only steel of it for me. I do have a class a and access to old beastly freightshaker with a 525 twin turbo putty cat. No issues moving it, if a yard would give me clean.

He says no title. Me dont know and dont care. As long as he shows me proof of ownership and id.....Im game. Hell he had it on craigs for sale since the day after xmas. Some how he found me and called me///lol.

Skillsaw with 40 tooth carbide blade. Keep it away from steel your blade will last the whole job.

Im expecting to see 4500 usd in alu clean rest in steel. Then split down the middle....

always amazing how quickly industrial stuff like that loses value...Obsolescence is a b*tch

was at a business cleanout auction a couple years ago and there were 2 vintage aluminum dry vans (28' semi trailers) that dated to the 40's. They were too rough to restore and brought only 700 each...no one had the means to move them and they couldn't be cut on site.

Would have made great office trailers or toy haulers!


My only suggestion might be that your flatbed could be repurposed into something else and resold, but the value of AL being so high its probably worth more as weight.

BTW the axle assemblies alone should be worth a couple hundred, plus the value of the wheels and tires if they're any good
