Well you have one thing going for you. You have the gumption to knock on doors and look for material. Figure out a way to get that water heater (have it stick out of your trunk or something, anything), go turn it in for scrap, then come back and tell us of your success. After that all of the ribbing you are getting on here will turn into patting on the back and chants of "way to go", "you made it happen", etc.

You have it in you, go make it happen. Then come back and tell us about it. Oh, don't forget to take a picture of it sticking out of your car, or you rolling it home, or carting it on a dolly.

I once brought home 18 computers in my Taurus so it can be done, and the trunk still shut.

What a thread. I'm trying hard to deal with these first impressions, because i believe in them...but, make it up to us by taking a picture of however you get that water heater. Be sure to take off the brass, elements and wire. By the way, the way, the "corrosion" rod is normally made out of magnesium. If you find a yard with prices, please post.

Saw some people at the yard with a full size frig in the trunk - didn't get close enough to see how they did it. They may have taken off the hood or whatever it's called in the back.

If you haul one in a vehicle - make sure to put down a tarp so you don't get water and gunky stuff everywhere.

Wasn't/isn't there a guy on here from Australia that straps stuff on his back to haul stuff? I remember thinking, "Now there's some gumption!"

That was a scrapper (Soraro) from out in New York state, a retired trooper from this site posted it. Here is his account of it all.
This happened on Monday, but I just got pictures to prove it today. The troopers got him on a main highway, with no license and registration, and apparently with no brain. 4-21-11

Again with the crazy loads in my town! This was a day or two after the incident from the "What were they thinking?" thread. I was told it was even the same guy, but can't confirm that. No news articles, just a fellow employees eyewitness account.
He was however stopped by the police about 50 feet from the scrap yard entrance! The blue buildings you see behind in the last two pictures, are the yard buildings.

As I have previously bragged "I don't need no stinkin' truck"..Use that car as a tool for income rather than a burden to transport you to low paying work. My lowly Datsun B-210 Hatchback was good for thousands in income over the 3 years I ran it..that was a $50 car. Your neighbors may laugh...you laugh all the way to the bank. Keep on scrappin'!!

You know where this a will there is a way. I had a kitchen stove 800lbs plus. It was from a burned out restaurant. Doubt it was stainless as all magnetic, but maybe I screwed up and dumped it in the tin pile...who cares. I ddont have any pics to prove this, but this is what happened.

I wrapped a chain around the front of the box down to the frame and hooked the cum along to it. I managed to stand the stove one end up. Back up enough that I could lay it down on the tailgate. The hinges are shot on the gate mind you. Anyhow I start cranking it up. Well would you know it, the fricking tailgate slipped. The stove fell, landed on the bumper, and the legs got pinned between the bumper and box. I tried wrestling it and couldnt get it out. Im like oh ****, I need a jack, and didnt have one.

So since Im a hillbilly redneck asshat, I cam up with a plan. I repositioned the cable to the back of the stove. Started cranked and it picked the rear end of the stove of the ground. Now it was resting on the bumper and the rear legs were about 3 inches of the ground. Mind you this stove is sticking like 8 ft back from the bumper. I took some tie straps to hold it there and drove it home.

Luckily I had all back roads to my parents house where I work out of. Every so often on a bump or a dip in the road, the back legs would hit the road, start spaeking like crazy, but I kept trucking. Wish I took a pic and wish I took a pic of my Dad's face when I rolled in. RIP Dad....

So when there is a will there is a way.....
