Need quick advice !

ive never paid for my scrap metal in the past so w.e i made minus gas was all profit but now that things are getting slow and ive had a little extra money on my hands from my other job ive decided to start paying for my scrap . im not paying by the pound just paying for specific items i think i can make money on i figure its easier like that. ill list my yards prices for certain things then ill list what im paying and maybe you guys can gimme an idea if im doing it right or need to change something

so far this has worked great ive been getting alot of calls and it seems like ill profit but i wanted to see what the more expierianced guys think .. thanks

Most of your prices seem pretty fair. I pay more for a/c's but that's because I really need the refrigerants to fill contracts.

ive told people that have called with acs to try and have the freon and all that crap removed before i pickup and i can give 2 or 3 extra dollars per ac

yeah i dont have a scale and all and i think even if i did i wouldnt be able to match up with the big scrap businesses out here like 2 brothers who have a load of trucks with a scale in every one of them so instead of competing with thier prices i did something a little different

Sometimes when dealing with the public, giving them a fixed price per item makes it easier for them to understand. When I quote price per pound they get a glazed look in their eyes.

yeah thats another thing and i always tell them when they call "i pay scrap value for items so if your just looking to sell a working item outright try ebay or craigslist" but so far ive gotten 2 people that are demoing a house and 1 thats moving i even got one who said"if you come and buy some of my stuff and me and my wife go buy a pie of pizza witht hat money ill be happy for the next week" made me laugh lol

a little high on bikes, and a little cheap on batteries, other than that your right on, we usually bundle it up tho you will get a better price

mick i tell them to have the freon empty for me or i wont take it and no usually i wont pay for light iron ill jus tell them ill add a dollar or 2 to a few items if they throw some light iron type stuff in for me
