    todays com wire experment.

    weighed out 10 # of computer wire including ribbon. and chemicaly stripped it to find the difference in weight, and profit potential.

    I get .40 for com wire

    I get $3 for #2

    I ended up with 2.7 lbs of #2 out of 10 lb of com wire.

    10 lb x .40 = $4

    2.7 x $3 = $8.10 or a $4.10 gain

    now to find an econimical way to strip it.

    don't like burning and MEK is $18.00 a gallon. go to work folks lets figgure this out.

    Since computer wire is tinned, did it separate the copper from everything else?

    How many times can you use a batch of MEK? And could you outline the process vaguely? might have to get a few 50 gallon drums and the right container and do it in decent size batches....preferably using the same solution and just removing the waste to create more room as you go.

    Not trying to start anything but:

    Burning = enviromentally bad
    MEK = turns brain into swiss cheese over time

    Sell it as is and put your time into increasing your working capitol in better ways

    I don't think they were talking about actually "burning" the wire itself, Victor.

    Safety

    Before a bunch of people run out to get some MEK, read the following wikipedia entry - especially the Safety section. It also may bring some unwanted attention from drug enforcement folks.

    We use to use MEK when I was in the airforce to strip the paint off of the airplane. Man that stuff worked awesome. Does it turn the rubber insulation into a goop like it use to do to the paint?

    Our last load back in Oct netted us $1.25 lb for 86 lb of mixed small and computer wire. The yard called it #2. O.D. save it up till you get a truckload and make a small vacation and enjoy some of our Hoosier hospitality and #2 prices. Can you imagine a truckload of #2, makes me drool.
