Great Thread! ok here's what we have so far:

30ft above ground pool, and it weighed 300lbs
Car rims- 15-35 lbs
Brake rotors- 15-25 lbs
Cast Furnace no sheet metal about 40" square 400 lbs
275 gal oil tank. about 300 lbs.
4" Dia cast pipe. about 10 lbs a ft. Ex. 10' = 100lbs
Cast iron tub 300 lbs avg.
5 gallon bucket full of BB copper wire 50lbs
Average computer tower weighs around 20 LBS.
40 gallon water heater-- 100lbs
50 gallon waterheater -- 130lbs
100 gallon commercial waterheater 485lbs

I've averaged dryers I've taken in and I came up with 136 lbs

6 ft. chest freezer - 200 lbs. Just took one in today.

Im not sure about this but I think its a good idea, what do you guys think about bringing a bathroom scale around with you before you purchase an item such as a 40 gal. water heater. You might be able to put a 3-5 gallon bucket(depending on the scale size) on the scale as a stand and then sit the water heater or other object on top of the bucket. it should be somewhat accurate.

I agree that the water heaters are not worth much, but my point was about how to weigh the item(with the bathroom scale.) What do you think about that Mechanic668? but besides the original point, I get about 10 bucks per 100 lbs. of shred so id pay around $4 for a water heater. that is worth it right?

FWIW you can look up weights on cars ahead of time and get curb weights by going to towspec.com as for everyday items most have to many variables a geo metro rotor is 10 lbs while my duallys are 71 from experience even though both are rotors

Motherboards and hard drives average just over one pound each.

Average computer (out of 40 different brands, sizes, and ages) - 26.5lbs

The average 30 yard dumpster full of light iron can run between 4 to 6 gross ton

between ebay and google i can get average weights.
