Talking fax macheines, copiers, and type writers have rods what are they?

They all have these rods in them and they are pretty heavy. Does anyone know what they are made of? They look stainless but I'm still learning my metals so any knowledge would be appreciated.

use a magnet. if it sticks...its steel.

    most likely they are steel.

I haven't found any to be non magnetic stainless yet. Maybe in some really old high end stuff, but I doubt it. Speaking of rods though, old 5.25 floppy drives often have stainless rods that the head slides on. Possibly other old drives too.

The rods also make good punches and drivers. Ruin one, bend one there's always more.
As a driver I'm always sober, but my truck is always ready to get loaded

The rods that the printer head slides on is steel. after you take the plastic top off of some printers right on top above the printer head is a ss piece that looks like small angle iron. Always check with a magnet.

Professional office printers/copiers have stainless but they have this rubberized foam molded to them, I use a razor and scrap it off. Probably not worth it, but I break EVERYTHING down.

I stand the rods up on end then hit the rubber rollers down with the claw part of the hammer. The foam ones, I just peel it off. Don't forget to save the main boards and memory. Some of the large multi-function printers have a hard drive. save that too.

Wouldn't the rollers go as heavy steel for a better price? Their thicker than 1/4" and shorter than 2'.
