Semi starters & alternators

Hey new to the forum, been scrapping since August of 2011. Must say its a whole new world and I like it. I picked up 14 semi starters and 10 alternators the other day. I did this last year as well but had little to go on so just scrapped them. After the starters were taken apart it worked out to about $17.00 in scrap metal. What my question is.....
Is there a better market for these then scrap or what is the best root to maximise profits. Any help would be appreciated.

you might should go to the introduce yourself section (main SMF page, near the bottom) before the introduce yourself police get here ; ) I've seen posts that recommended checking parts place core return payments on some things, sure might be worth a try on those.

(down here they don't allow semis to go around dropping stuff like that, but that's just here)

I sell them as cores. Get $23 each here.

$23 don't seem like much for a semi? some of those things sell in the hundreds of dollars don't they ?

Hey Bear, yeah I think $23 would be on the low side. Some of the ones I have are 4-800 new.

Value as a returnable core or to a core buyer in most cases has nothing to do with the purchase price of part. Its kind of like the supply-demand thing. In past years replacing auto parts sometimes the core charge was much higher than the cost of the part. Makes you get the replaced part back in short order.

Just wondering out load here. If you could find out which ones are popular and used a lot, would it be worth taking them into a starter / alternator repair guy and having them fixed to resell.

Yeah that crossed my mind as well but I would rather sell them to the repair guy becuase I wouln't want some big angry trucker looking for me if it stopped working while they were on the road. When it comes to that kind of stuff I'd rather let the pro's deal with it. Thanks for the reply.
