    400 computers, monitors and towers

I just got a call to buy 400 for 40 cents a pound. Should I buy them?

    no you will lose money.

even at 20 cents a pound i found that i barely make anything for my time.

No way you should be paying for towers and monitors by the pound together. Shouldn't be paying for the monitors at all actually, unless you can be sure you'll be able to resell the tubes and plastic. Even then anything above zero is probably too much.

You would be paying for too much glass.

I would base your purchase near the scrap value of the steel in the computer towers. I've weighed a few at around 15 lbs stripped weight depending on size. Figure a little for the al and cbm and around 4-5$ pay out you should come close to getting your investment back. The boards and other goodies make your profit and that can vary depending on how you sell that stuff.
