Got a pretty big aluminum gas tank off a boat today. There's still some gas in it though, any ideas on how to get it out without killing grass or dying?

pour it into a bucket or container and bring it to autozone they recycle all kinds of hazardous vehicle waste

The main problem is getting it out though, unfortunately.
Punch a hole with a hammer and punch or air chisel if you have access.

You don't want to be chiseling around on that tank if it has gas fumes. Fill with water or exhaust fumes like was mentioned in another thread. You don't want it exploding on you.Originally Posted by landmine

Yeah, I read that somewhere earlier. It's an 86 gallon tank. I guess filling it with water would work pretty well. There's not much gas, but it's still gas.

Universal electric fuel pumps work great for something like this. Safety first of coarse, but if it's indeed aluminum, risk of spark much smaller.

I would siphon the fuel out into my truck or genny, etc. Hell I havnt bought fuel for my genny in 8 months. Once I found 2 5 gallon boat tanks full of gas. stunk to high heaven from sitting. So I dumped some stabil in it, let it sit for a day, and been running it ever since. Thats a safe legal way to dispose oif fuel. If running it into a fuel injected vehicle, I would recommend filtering it as some of the gunk cvan clog the injectors. Personally I dump the fuel in my truck and use lucas fuel stabilizer every 5k miles and no issues. And my Dodge is a oddball, no inline fuel filter from the factory. Only filter is built into the fuel pum,p assembly which is a 200 part. KInda f up idea from Dodge if ya ask me.
