    Question Quick question for biginner

Well as I said I am a beginner. Recently I have been fishing in an abandoned quarry near where I live and noticed a lot of old crane wire everywhere as well as various metal parts from machinery and the giant dump bucket/ carts they used in cranes. There must be at least 1000ft of wire laying around all of which is roughly thicker than an inch. I was wondering if anyone knew what kind of metal that might be as well as any rules on taking stuff from an abandoned quarry. I know it is no longer owned by the quarry company and they do not know who owns the property. I have asked the locals that live near and and no one knows either. There is plenty of money to be made there but I need to know some info first. Any suggestions on who to ask about who owns it? Also if anyone can tell what kind of metal it may be. I havent been able to test yes but i know its rusted and can get pictures tomorrow. Thanks for all the help.

Just noticed I misspelled beginner in title.

The cable is steel and it belongs to somebody. Talk to your local assessors office and find out who pays the taxes on it.

You can usually do a property search to find the owner online by going to your county's property appraisers website.

Steel cable goes for about $85 a ton at my yard if it isn't on a spool to make torching easy.

Determine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing.
