Wink removing copper from low grade boards

Lately I have been finding lot of TVs and have been accumulated a few low grade boards. So when I don't have anything to do and want to kill time I just remove the copper and aluminum from the boards. Is fun and I have been putting lots of copper in this bucket that weighs a lot by now.

Also bigger coils and chokes, and any big IC chips.

I do the same as Mechanic, plus the big transformer, I think it's called a flashback transformer, it's the big black one.

It's called a flyback transformer. Added by Mech.

Been done here a couple of times, not worth the trouble; your much better off selling them whole.

I know theirs tons of threads about removing items from low grade boards, and I've seen tons of the "coils" (usually in disk drives), and throw them in a separate bucket...does anyone cut the copper off these or just say whatever and turn them in as motors?

Yes some core buyers buy them, not all scrap yards will buy them as electric motors or as copper bearing matariel. If you have a buyer for your low grade boards I think your better off leaving them on the board, it's most of the wieght of the board. I used to unwind the coils but now just put then with the electric motors. Thanks Mech the correction on the flyback transformers, just couldn't remeber the right name.

My buyer will buy the flyback as a transformer for .25 and I'm only getting .15 - .20 for the low grades.

i used a chopsaw on a flyback once, posted pics on here somewhere, it's kind of like any other transformer, but with a lot of insulation around it

They're not fun to cut, the insulating material turns to a fine dust, probably equal to breathing fiberglass

I get way more than shred for my low grade so I don't take anything off anymore. Just clip off the wires since I get significantly more for them than I do the lowgrade and send it on it's way like it is.... Saves me a lot of time, I used to clean them of everything.

taking on board differing opinions makes it confusing, to pull or not to pull, that is the question.

for storage I think pulling the flybacks off make stacking boards easier, along with the aluminium your left with nice flat boards.
I'm leaning towards leaving the flybacks on and removing what comes off without busting it up, mostly the copper things and alu'.
just not convinced the time to pull flybacks and handle another pile justifies the extra 5c lb, 'cos that means if I have pulled 100lb of 'em, I only made $5 extra for all that trouble, bit's of boards flying everywhere, think i'd rather have the weight of the flyback in with the boards too.

Until I've worked out what to do and have a couple more prices, I'm still stacking up boards.
have ran out of room in my shed, these are double stacked to the roof so they don't fall over, it started off just a little pile but has gotten out of hand, think I have a week more of scrapping tv's to go before I can make a start here..

To help make the decision how much per lb are you going to be paid for your low grade?
