freonjoe was not congratulating you. Beryllium oxide is in that pink thing and it's dust causes cancer. Do not smash it.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I would leave the Berillium oxide well alone unless you want to get really really sick and die, whenever i take apart a microwave for the copper transformer i dont even think
for one second going anywhere near that **** stinking rotting thing.

Its a magnatron & its made copper with some magnetic stainless steel ends, thats what attracted the magnet.
The copper part weights 80 grams, which means that if you lathe off the stainless bits you are left with a clean copper bobbin thats worth about US$0.50cents.

Also, the pink parts pretty dangerous if its broken & you get a bit of it inside you. I use a metal tube to punch out the bobbin.

What do you do with the berillium part after it has been separated?

WHat does happen to the pinrk part. I think Ill just keep selling to an r2 dealer.

google civilan nuclear accidents. Crazy how many involved people scrapping things. If it was not so serious you would almost laught because If you steal a radio active machine and scrap it for stainless you should deserve what you get. That machine ruined his truck that was crushed and sold and even then that steel was contaminated. Crazy.

There was a yard owner that was scrapped a small larger than marble sized ball. He made in into a necklace for his son. Dad got sick, the son who wore it on a trip to somewhere died. It prolly hung right by his heart. Terrible story. I have son who I make or give a lot of unique items that are scrapped through me to him.

Open a tab and read the wiki civilian radiation accidents. Whole thing is its an accident. That marble necklace thing was for well logging btw.

We have to remember rules are made for a reason. Just the same reason I dont open ac units and break them down. I get more for them because I have a buyer who recovers the different gasses and does not mix them. He is the only place in NE i think that has the process to separate, grade, clean and resell them. All ofcourse legally. That thing was like 300k and he paid it off in the first year by selling the gas wholesale.

put it in a coffee can, tape the lid on and into the trash. Or wait till your county has a hazardous material recycling day and let them dispose of it properly.

It'll still break in the trash truck.

Can you point out the "Pink Thing" for me so if I scrap one of these I know what to stay away from ?
Apparently, my screen colors are a little off.

The beryllium oxide piece looks like a ceramic and can also be white. It is what he is hitting with a hammer @ 2:00 in the video

    This is from Wikipedia:
"BeO is carcinogenic and may cause chronic beryllium disease. Once fired into solid form, it is safe to handle as long as it is not subjected to any machining that generates dust.[9] Beryllium oxide ceramic is not a hazardous waste under Federal law in the USA."
