Nice score on the bikes! Definitely don't scrap those. While they're not as sought after as Schwinn's they're still vintage and there is a market for them, especially if you're anywhere near a college town. You should be able to easily put up an ad on craigslist and get rid of em pretty quick. Probably the most wanted would be the "cruiser" type blue one even though it's not as good a shape as the others.
I recently had a learning session about bikes as I had 3 old 1970's Schwinn's I got in a storage auction. They were in pretty rough shape and needed some work to get riding again and couple of the chains were rusted. Sold all 3 for $150, which isn't that much but I literally was able to get rid of them within 2 days and had lots of interest. Anyway, I live about 15 miles from a college town and I sold one to a college kid that has rebuilt them before and sold them. Then the other 2 were bought by a professional rebuilder that sells in the same college town and he taught me a few things. For one, the cruisers sell REALLY well in college towns and he often will take a bike with the "racing" style handle bars and replace them with the cruising style.
Just looking them up on ebay really quick I see they're from Sears. I'd maybe dig a little and see if they have serial #'s like schwinns, make sure it's not some super rare model people are looking for. If not I bet you could put them up on craigslist and get about $50 a piece.
thanks for the info! Sold all three today for $100 and a non running mower!
Awesome! Nothing like a quick turnaround, especially when you got it for free! Glad it worked out.
you lucked out at getting $100 for all 3 IMHO. I am a bike nut and those are low end, bike boom bikes. A ton of them produced. Personally I would have tossed them into my tin trailer and not have thought twice about it. I hold my bikes to high standards tho.
add me to the mopar nut train too!
