Microwave Tear Down

It's been a while since Iv'e done microwave's, but even when I was doing them I never messed with the magnatron only because I feared it. But know I know. Thank You!

I've got a GE Profile microwave just sitting in my garage because the touchpad stopped working. Everything else in the unit worked fine, but the cost of a replacement touchpad wasn't worth the hassle and we just bought a new one. Considering this, would it be more profitable for me to sell the Magnetron as a single unit on Ebay? I see them for sale anywhere from $20 to $40 used.

Actually, I don't think the magnatron unit itself is all that big (a little more than one beer can in Sirscrapalot units). For me, the bigger challenge would be verifying that it was in good working order to the satisfaction of the potential buyer.

Don't get me wrong here, I AM GOING TO OPEN THE MICROWAVE UP and take out the Magnetron, transformer, wiring, etc. Partly because I want to see what the inside of one looks like and get experience taking one apart. I'm just going to do some more research on this forum (still have ALOT to read through!) and figure out which way to go. Take the magnetron apart or just sell it as a single piece.

I am really starting to get the scrap'n fever now, boy!

thanks. i just found a microwave the other day. it was heavy as heck so i hopped out with the cordless drill. Didnt even know what a magnetron was so i left it. i only got the transformer and fan motor. the transformer felt nice and heavy, but being able to get it out and leave the shell where it was really saved alot of space and weight in my car. if i find another i will definitely look for the magnetron

on my patrol this morning i went back to that same spot. most of the trash that was there before was still there, but the shell of the microwave i left, along with whatever was still in it, that i didnt take out was gone lol
