Cheap USPS Postage via PayPal

If you have a PayPal / eBay account you know that you get cheaper Pitney Bowes commercial based pricing (including very useful Parcel Select). You also get deep discounts on UPS shipments. Below is a link you can use to buy PB shipping without having to sell an item eBay. It'll have the eBay and PayPal stamp but that's beans compared to the new options and money you'll be saving:

Flat rate boxes are the same but things like Parcel Select (if done correctly it CAN save you a few cents here and there) and Media Mail are cheaper through PB. I'm sure regular priority is a bit cheaper as well.

I did some quick math and some poking around and this is what I found:

Shipping to ewasted (44146) from Honolulu (96817):
Single large flat rate box w/9 lbs. of boards: $15.80 ($1.76 per pound)
Single 25x25x12, 36 lbs. box via Parcel Select (roughly 4x larger than a flat rate): $60.47 ($1.67 per pound)

If done correctly, you can actually save at least $0.10 per pound on shipping via Parcel Select.

Just be careful of your length + girth.

How does the prepaid FedEx work through CFCS? Is the cost of the FedEx taken out of the total? If so, even FedEx Ground is more expensive from Hawaii.

Next time ask him for a quote and compare what you can do yourself. Hawaii is different in many ways but you will get the best deal you can. Mike

Being in Hawaii, I can't give you stats, but FedEx is usually cheaper than the Post Office is for me (I'm in Wyoming).

Is LTL freight an option?

FedEx is always more expensive than the Post Office unless the dimensions are just right (and even then, Parcel Select is still cheaper than both FedEx and UPS Ground). LTL is not really an option because we do not have quite enough space to stockpile that much.

Over all my experience shipping item I sell on eBay is that USPS is best overall. USPS 13 oz and less can go First Class and its the least expense. Over 13 oz I find it worth it to check out all the possibilities, USPS-Priority and Parcel Select and Fedex.

For me the best deal is most often USPS Priority but sometimes its one of the other options. I like using the Flat Rate boxes and envelopes because I don't have hold a large inventory of boxes.

In Priority Mail along with the flat rate boxes they have Region A, B, C, boxes that are different size and shapes, A box being the smallest. The rate changes depending on where they are shipped but for me a good deal up and down the east coast and out to TN. I live in coastal NC.

A box ships at the 2 pound rate >> Max weight can be 15 pounds
B box ships at the 4 pound rate >> Max weight can be 20 pounds
C box ships at the 17 pound rate >> Max weight can be 25 pounds

I use the A and B's all the time
Never had a use for the C yet

The one B box is about the same size as a Large Flat Rate box
On zone 8's cheaper to use the Flat Rate
B would be $16.28 where the Large Flat Rate is only $15.80
