    Long Island Scrapyards

    my personal fav...

ARROW SCRAP... 1627 Straight Path, Wheatley Heights - best scrapyard on LI, worth the $5 in gas from my home base

    also good...

Two Bros Scrap Metal - 12 Sarah Drive, Farmingdale

Gershow Recycling Centers - 33 McAdam St., Bay Shore // 24 Denton Ave. New Hyde Park // 71 Peconic Ave. Medford // 635 Muncy Ave. Lindenhurst // 1885 Pitkin Ave. Brooklyn // 149 W. 11th St. Huntington Station // 143 Hanse Ave. Freeport

and i go to these guys when i just need to unload for more space / less gas cause theyre right up the road... but they pay way less...

Central Scrap - 127 Brightside Ave., Central Islip

i believe Gershow is directly across the street from Bi-county... i never went there because i thought all the other yards on that road only deal with auto salvage.... what type of prices do they give you?

I've used Gershow In Medford and PK in Coram.I've found the workers at Gershow to be less than pleasant, but PK to be more personable. I haven't done enough to compare both prices yet.

First Post-Bare with me if I failed to go through anything the right way. I will say that I scrapped a inspection dyno machine this week. If your not familiar with the unit, they're two identical dynos/ramps. I took one to Gershow in freeport-760lbs@11/lb, took the other to North Shore in freeport-860lbs@7/lb. The scales are shaved at Gershow but I guess its to take into account all the misc. stuff that comes with the light iron dumps. Bottom line, I still made more with Gershow scales.

We go to 2 brothers only for scrap runs. The reason being is that when you pull on their scales there is a digital readout of your weight and same on way out. Gershow does not and have to take their word for it. We take all other stuff to gershow since their prices seem to always be a bit better than 2 brothers. As far as service, I like going to 2 bros, always nice and helpful when directing you into yard. Also helped us a few times with pulling engine blocks off the truck with their bobcat. Gershow, there is usually only 3 guys there in Huntington, I heard that one of them is the son of the former owner that gershow bought the yard from. Kinda cranky. But like I said their prices are usually better than two bros and that is what matters in the long run. BTW- there is a Harbor Freight near the Gershow in huntington so thats a big plus as well.

Everyone needs to try heavy metal scrap theres on in brentwood and on in west babylon prices are better than any other yard on the island for non ferrous but they pay less for light iron. Guy who owns the place is always in the yard and very polite and will make conversation.
