Lightbulb SW Ohio... maxamizing return on e-scrap through sharing expenses

I have spent many hours researching where to take all of my boards etc and get the best return. Over the last month I have come to the conclusion that there are two forum members that 1) have had good reviews by other members 2) have fair pricing 3)beat the HECK out of what local to Cincy/Tri-state area buyers want to pay. (at least that I have found to date)

The obvious downside is having to pay for shipping and/or drive it there personally. So, what I am hoping to do is find one or more people that would like to share the travel expenses, so that a number of us can get a better return, and support other members on the forum.

I am open to suggestions as how to accomplish this but will offer a few to begin.

I am more than willing to do the driving. I could meet with people nearby, I have a pickup and 6x12 open trailer that could be loaded and tarped, we split the travel cost and the buyer can, and should, make payments to you however you work that out. All inventory can be sealed and clearly marked, as to who owns what, so it can be properly sorted and paid for.

If there are people between here, Cincy, and the buyer, I can stop and PU, and again share the expenses, with payment for your load made to you, how ever you work it out.

One other option that comes to mind is to do it as a "relay". (I have kids in track so is how my mind works) Someone brings to me, I take it up the road to say Lima (hint hint) they take it to someone else or to the buyer. You get the idea. Anything we can do to share the time, cost, wear and tear on our vehicles, etc I see as a plus and the chance to again, build new relationships and support forum members.

Alone, many of us may not be able to take advantage of getting the most out of what we do. Together, we can keep costs down, maximize our return, and support forum members.

As a side note, if you would like to spend a day traveling with an ole, fat, gray guy with seven kids and a lot to complain about, you are more than welcome to share the driving.

If you have any interest at all, feel free to send me a PM with any questions/comments, and I will give you my number so we can discuss it.

Be Safe and God Bless, BroJer

(Please understand that these comments are based on my own research of "regional" buyers that I am aware of at this time, and is subject to change. It in NO WAY reflects on other forum members outside of this region, who have fair pricing and have good reviews by other forum members)

just as a thought, i've noticed some buyers offer pickups within certain areas, which also (i believe) effects the price somewhat to cover the costs. If several worked together in timing alone, so the buyer could make several pickups on the same trip, helping reduce/combine overall expenses. just a thought

If you can collaborate on combining material into gaylords, we can work up some freight quotes which should be very costeffective - $.10 to $.25/lb at the most I would think.

Brojer, if you want to do the driving, I'd pay a premium to have you slide through Lima on your way to another buyer..LOL I hate the time on the road...i always think I could be making more money!

@Thor...being on the road is therapy for me and much cheaper than a shrink ;-) @ewasted...if we could get a number of us to get an LTL load together, that would be great. I would still rather make the trip a few times, and if it goes good, maybe I would get some REALLY BIG TIPS and get a REALLY BIG TRAILER and get REALLY REALLY RICH! ;-) Ok, we can all dream a little. @Bear, good thought! Never know where this little brain burp may lead.

Unfortunately I am in Toledo but I still may consider parterning. How would you ship in gaylords? I would still need to accumulate more high-grade boards but if you still would like to do this pm me. Thank you for your service!

Traveling on the road is therapy for me also Brojer, unless it's in big cities..grr. I prefer open roads and long trips! An people get stupider by the second as you add more cars to the mix.

Brojer I'm not sure if you're still interested in doing this but I would be down for something along these lines. I took my first e-waste load to ewasted a couple weeks back. Cost me about $75 in gas and around a 3.5 - 4 hour trip. I'm planning another trip down to Cinci in a few weeks so hopefully we can meetup and discuss something. Scrapping4ever I'm also located in the Toledo area so maybe we can also combine our efforts if that's something you're interested in.

wadarbr549, Ohio used to accept low grade and power supplies with the wires cut off or left on.
I would haul that stuff before plastic.

most of the yards in NW ohio pay .15 cents for power supplies with wires, some wont take them for more then shred. I took about 250 pounds with my load to ewasted (at .35 per pound) Basically paid for my gas there and back. Hopefully Jerry will chime in here at some point and we can figure something out.

I'm not sure what he pays on low grade boards, or if he buys them, but I can guarantee you if he does it's more then any local buyer will pay. I get around .18 cents for electric motors/transformers, so I usually don't even bother with taking them off LG boards anymore.
