There is also a difference between a collectors item and just an old computer.............For example a Dell computer from 10-12 years ago that was mass produced will probably never be a collectors item

Every computer since the Commodore 64 has been massed produced, people still collect C64's (granted when made in the millions they are not worth that much).

There are at least 2 kinds of collectors, people who want a machine of a specific vintage and don't care about brand just processor type and slots, and those who want specific brand/models because it means something to them (first computer maybe). There is a decent following for Packard Bell machines today, and those were the cheap mass produced dells of their day. One difference between the old Pentium 1 Packard Bells and a 10 year old DELL is that people paid a bunch of the PB and kept it in the attic while the 10 year old machines were much cheaper and went from being used to scrapped. You will be surprised in a decade how few of those P4 DELLs are still around thanks to the efforts of everyone here.

I am not saying you should hoard any old machine expecting a payday someday, just that we will all be surprised some day at what is collectable and what isn't.
