John and Focker: Reading this thread for the last few posts.. I feel for you guys. I decided to hang up buying and scrapping cars. Sold my Pickup and my trailer a week or so ago. I wish you guys the best- hang tough- praying prices will come back up for you guys!!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
Yeah sledge me to as you know i am in it for the long run lol.
Why did you get out of it?

I got out of it for a couple reasons:
1. Steel prices have taken a dive and look to stay there for a while
2. Competition in my area is FIERCE.. Sadly a lot of guys play and run dirty. Hard to compete with guys like that when I work 50 hours a week and all they do is scrap cars.
3. Junkyards and pull-your-own part places can pay better than I and sit on them for as long as they want.. which I can't do.
4. My truck- even though constantly and properly maintained was just one problem after another. 91K miles and I Was always having to get something fixed. I got rid of it before I hauled my next car and the tranny crapped out or some other catastrophe as that was just the way the truck was.
5. Got into e-waste before the steel crash and enjoyed it far more than hauling cars. I bought a sprinter van for my contracting work and picking up a load of computers and breaking them down inside was much more appealing.
6. In regards to e-waste.. not a lot of folks in this area really doing it. I'm even able to catch nightly Curbco guys and say "Bring me towers and I'll pay you for them" They get far more than the steel shred price by leaving them in their load and I make $ too. Win-Win. I had a guy who does haul cars and I learned some of my basics from call me last night and say "Hey when you get done at Lowes swing by my house.. I got something for you." He found on the curb 4 towers and 2 laptops. I made him a deal that I would feed him all my car leads or ones I spot and he will send computer waste my way. Now that we won't be competing we will probably get along a lot better!
Not bad i hope it works out for you.
SO John how have u been doing up there?
John where u at?

Still sitting at $70.00 a ton
So I am only paying $100.00 to $150.00 for them so things are slow >> about 2 maybe 3 cars a week
I have 3 on Craigs right now
Parting out 2000 00 F150 4X4 with dead trans
Parting out 1998 98 Ford Mustang Convertible GT
2000 Ford Mustang GT 00 Coupe with Blown Head Gasket and Auto Trans
yeah the prices suck.I wonder when they will start to rise again

The guy at our local yard told me that there is basically no chance of them raising here until Spring at the earliest. We are usually behind trends here, though.
