All I do is type the number into Google. That usually gives information on the chips, and sometimes if some have sold recently.

Ebay ( and a few other sites ) to see if any have sold.
Also it is a good idea to look through a few web sites dealing with rare and valuable electronics parts ... rarest IC I have ever seen sold for over $800.
An example is a Reticon R5101 ... those go for $40 - $80 each
(( Also a good idea to look up board from very old computers - graphics cards, RAM moduals, and the like can be worth hundreds ))
