A lot of us sell them by the pound but Joebob and a few others smash the plastic off and pick the pins out of the mess. That's where a ball mill would come in handy.
You need to be careful on running these in a ball mill you have a chance of wearing the gold plating off of the connector pin's.

If their still good, you might try selling them on Ebay a lot at a time. Probably get more for them then scrap.

That's a good idea, I have CAT5 tester somewhere. I'd say half of them were cut into pieces when they got pulled out of racks, but the others should be fine.

I've been pulling the pins out of the ends of CAT5 connectors for awhile now. They're fairly easy to get out, I just use a flat tip screwdriver or even my fingernails and the pins readily pop out. The shape of the pins can be seen in the following pics.

CAT 5 connectors have 8 pins each. I counted 900 connectors which gave me a little over 2 oz of gold plated pins. It'll take alot of these to make any kind of weight but you can sit watching your favorite TV show while pulling the pins out. Hope this helps.
