    Scrap Inspection Equipment

    Hi everyone,

I am working in a steel manufacturing company where we purchase huge amount of scrap daily. We used to visual inspect the scrap truck to evaluate the shipments. As this process depends only on the inspector experience and capabilities, variation of judgments form a person to another is creating a lot of problems to with the scrap suppliers.

Is there in automotive way to inspect the scrap and identify exactly the quantity of rubbish such as sand, concrete, water etc in the shipments.

    please advise me,

I am thinking that this should have been done before it got to you.

I am also assuming that you are buying your scrap from the guys that we sell it too. Most of us here sell it to those kind of guys who then get it to you.

That being said, in my opinion, I would be making sure that the middleman is bringing you clean material. If you start docking the middleman, he will then start getting tougher when the small guys bring it too him. Stuff rolls down hill.

That is the best I can do for you, sorry. Other than that, short of washing it, crushing and grinding it and then seperating with a magnet, I can not picture any other method.
