CD/Floppy Drive Boards**Search Function Not Being Helpful**

I have seen this question on here before, but can't find it in the search function. What is the going rate for cd-drive boards and floppy boards

I have 75 CD-Disk-Drives and 30 3.5' Floppies (selling my 5.5's on Ebay). My local ewaste yard pays $.15 per pound for each and I want to estimate if I should tear some boards and motors out or scrap them.

Do you sell mother boards? The 3.5" drives I just break off the section with the pins and put the in the connector can and send them off to my buyer. The others some call optic drives and those boards also sell to the ewaste buyers.

Pulling out the motors is an up to you thing for me not worth it. If you do those 75 you will know the answer for you and your situation. Also some of the 3.5" floppy drive have an Al core which I do take the time to recover. Best of luck and if you haven't check out this link. Mike

Take apart the CD drives and scrap the floppies whole at $ .15.

Pretty sure the CD boards are around $ 3 right now.

Only the gold pins on the floppy board are worth anything.

See Part Time Scrapper's excellent thread for more info here:

    FROM A BOARD BUYER
The Peripheral board category is for boards that do not qualify for motherboard grade, but are better than midgrade.
This includes but is not limited to such boards as DVD/CD-ROM ( CD/DVD board description), Printer boards, higher quality telephone board and cable/dvr board. Peripheral Board (no batteries) $2.50 per pound
Maybe this will help answer your question. Personally I pull the floppy boards also, but that's just me,,

most floppy boards are low grade. I also just pull the gold pin connector off. the cdrom boards do sell at around $3 to $4 a pound to most buyers as well so I pull those boards off and send the rest to shred pile.

If I had the time I'd tear down the cast aluminum floppies as well.

Time is a big factor for every scrapper.

It's all in what your time + scrap value is worth.
