Granted, I am sure most will already know of this, but I am going to talk about it anyway.
Unless you live in a small hick town, or just a small town period, you will not see a lot of construction sites going on. However, in the area that always has construction going on, what I like to do is this.
I will go to the site, and ask to speak to a manager, supervisor, etc. I give them my name, company name, and a
business card. I tell them that I am sure that they already have someone for their
scrap metal recycling, but in the event that they need someone to come out on short notice, or for any reason, to give me a call, shoot me an email, etc.
I also ask them where their company is located. Generally, unless you are speaking to the owner by chance, they will tell you. I then will go to the office, and ask to speak to someone who would be in charge of authorizing someone to go to the sites and pick up the scrap metal FREE of charge. Never charge them for this, as they are already most likely paying some company hundreds of dollars for a dumpster rental and removal.
Tell them, that all they have to do, is put it all in one general area, and that they can either call you when they need it removed, or you can come by every other day, or even once a week.
Some, will keep the dumpster, and just give you permission to go into it....just be careful when you do. Keep your ears open to anyone coming close to you, so they don't throw something on top of you.
