keep an eye on your trucks

i do not know how many it would apply to but while talking to some local scrappers i know they got to talking about a guy who had his wrecker stolen in my general area and after talking with a few other i decided to call him and ask a few question's as i have two rollbacks out on the road and dont like this kind of stuff in my area.

anyway to the point of the post after talking to the guy a bit he says that the police are investigating what they believe is a theft ring in the nc/sc area (possibly bigger) using stolen trucks to steal cars/equipment to scrap/ send to chop shop's. i assume they are using stolen trucks so if they are seen in the act they just dump the truck.

this happened about a month ago but i just heard about it in last week or so and i am sure the truck is long gone by now but i just thought it was something i would put out there so to speak as a heads up and i didnt know exactly where to post this just thought it went along the lines of what some members have talked about in the past people like this are exactly why we honest scrappers have got to get a voice because when stuff like this spreads it gives john q. public the impression that all scrappers are low-lifes.

also a basic description of the truck just in case anyone spots it

Put a gps on your trucks. Not one that is "easily" found tho. They make a good few that install very easy an will track the truck at all times with live gps...something to look into.

I put a switch to my solenoid wire, so if it is not turned on, try as you might, you will never ever steal my truck cuz the biatch is not gonna start unless you find that switch and flip it lol

Drug dealers use to think that when they placed the drugs in there little girls room when the cops came knocking on there door.

Point is...if they know what they are looking for..an know how to work on cars an..know how to steel them..they will find the switch and or bypass it.

Think about it...the switch is most likely in the front seat up under the dash or the chair...another place that is used often is down behind the seat belt...There are only so many hiding places

Better yet, get a "removable" steering wheel like nascar uses......I think there are companies that sell these?........Its hard to get a vehicle going in the right direction
    without a steering wheel!!

Those are not street legal, and if you get pulled over with something like that the cops will impound your car, not just give you a repair ticket.

Wow!! I did not know this!......Ignore my last post folks, as I am not taking any responsibility, for anything I say, and don't recommend doing this at home.....

My kid has a quick release steering wheel on his souped up Honda for theft protection...I'm going to have to drill him when he gets home.

They're cool and all, but when you're using non-DOT approved items on a vehicle the cops are unforgiven.... trust me I had my car impounded several times for non-DOT approved items.

I'd have to agree with you there MDG, most anti theft devices for anything do a pretty good job keeping the "honest people honest", but if someone wants something bad enough it's gone. I got to work at a house we were building one morning to find my heavy duty gang box split open like a tin can, the people living on both sides claim they never heard a thing!?

not perfect, but if you have smart thieves in the area, use 2 gps trackers, one thats almost easy to find and one hard to find. they find the easy one and stop looking

the gps trackers are really a good idea, not only for theft reasons but we have put several of them on vehicles due to dishonest employees, i hope none of you have have either problem but stuff happens
