Yes there is less and less of it as well as a lot more competition.
I've got some shops I go and clear out every month (one every week), otherwise, like I tell people, I've pretty well wound down for the winter.
I've still got a couple that bring a load by here every so often, too. I've pretty much quit "beating the bush" due to competition.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
I agree completely !! With winter hitting and the prices of scrap bringing out everyone I have been basicaly getting nothing. I have not been getting "skunked" but there is so much competition here that anything good is hard to come by.
Agreed that it is much rougher now. Last 2 weeks really haven't gotten anything. A dryer last week and some minor stuff here and there, but that is basically it.
It is getting harder to find things in this area too! Lots of competition. When someone lists on Craigs List, it is spoken for within a matter of minutes! Scrounging around for scrap is a rough way to get it.
Got a good one yesterday. I saw an old bathtub broken in half sitting by the curb. Thought it wasfiberglass from the brown color. I stopped and holey cow!!!! It was cast iron. Weighs about 600 lbs. Had to call my wife to come help me get it in the truck.
yeah too much competition anymore and not enough metal to go around and as an extra kick in the nuts, prices are very high in these parts. my exhaust manifold cracked on my truck and i haven't left my house in a week. I AM GOING CRAZY..........and broke.
When things slow down in the winter, I make a good chunk of money snow plowing. Weather permitting, it can be a real nice pay check.
Yeah. Had to chase a couple trucks outta my alley this week! They were actually picking in my piles I have going from rehabbing houses. Seems like there are ten to fifteen trucks a weeks out cruising to see what they can pick up. It's all a little economically discouraging right now for everyone.
