You ARE getting calls. That's the first step. I've gotten those "fishing" call from competition, too. After a couple, you can pick up on them pretty easily. Those I give really low ball prices. Sometimes, I've even heard about them trying to "out bid" me.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

I have had the same thing but I find it funny that they have to call me first to find out what there profit range will be...so toss them what I call a dead bone. Tell them you will pay 1,000 when its only worth $500...so they over bid on it..they get it...an lose there bottoms on it...I have done that a few times an my competition dose not last to long. It just comes down to the one with the real skill...just make sure its your competition an not a real customer lol

I get an out of state ever so often. It's usually someone that just moved to the area and needs scrap hauled off.

I've had many out of state numbers become clients..........locals with out of state cell phones. Recently, one of those out of state numbers was a fellow that needed a broken, but complete car (90's Honda) removed immediately. His Uhaul was already packed for moving far away. He was ready to leave and the car needed to be gone to get his rental deposit back from his landlord. I drove it onto my trailer. My cost...an hour of my time and a 44 mile round trip. Most of us know what an import cat is worth

Or the guy that said it would probably take several trips....I show up, 30 miles later, with the dually, 26 feet of trailer and a helper........5 minutes later, the whole lot was in the back of the pickup. That was today :/

Some are. Answering the call is a chance I'm willing to take.
