Pests and Electronic recycling

Well,



Just had the pest control service out today and signed a monthly contract for them to check and search for pests each month.

They have found evidence of some pests in my home and detached garage where i currently run my escrapping business from.

$39.95 Per month will cover everything they treat for.

I would suggest to many of you doing this to look into this option. After talking with the guy he said the largest e-recycler in the area is a client of theirs and they are onsite ever 2 weeks to spray.

The pests he's found for them include.
Bed bugs, roaches, mice, ants, silver fish, spiders and other. Every last one of them hitchhiked in on a PC.

I have seen it all when it comes to computers. I have had bird nests, snakes, dead rats/mice, knife, hand cuffs, money, ID card, keys and so on.

When it comes to computers people will put them anywhere and can put ANYTHING inside of them. They could of been outside or undercover but they can be turned into great homes for things you would not want like metal pipes and spiders.

Since then I've always made it standard practice to open anything up outside and blow it out before I bring it in the house because of that.

Never have found any though (yet), did find a few spiders, and scored an old desktop with a wasp nest in it one time.

all summer long every appliance and electronic that had been left outside overnight had at least a dozen of these in it. very weird

blowing it out wont dislodge any eggs.

If you bring them in you will soon have a problem

Yep, those things (stinkbugs) are everywhere here too.

at the last curb cleanup i did, i got alot of microwaves and they had waves of roaches.

Hey Droz, (or anyone else) if you ever get a bug that you would like to have identified just post a picture. I'm actually an entomologist (insect scientist) by trade. Spent 5 years in college studying bugs.

I've been pretty nervous about bringing things into my house so I try not to let anything sit too long. Knock on wood I've yet to find anything living in my computers yet.

I'm sure the whole bug thing can be very real but will also tell you from having dealt with bug guys as part of being a contractor over the years, they will tell you and show you just about anything to get your stomach to turn long enough to sign a contract.

I think you could do it yourself for cheaper than the 39.95 / month.

Doubt it.

It includes a full spraying on the outside of my garage and home.
Commercial grade rodent bait and traps.
Trained inspectors to mark trouble spots and note changes
Chemicals to treat anything that they find.

So it saves my time and just the trips back and forth between homedepot and applying the posion are worth the $40.

Not to mention they use special equipment to keep my pets safe. Cant get that from a spray bottle.

From years of selling used junk at the flea markets I have battled bugs for years. I just found "Combat source kill max" which has worked far better than anything else I have ever used. Its packaged in a large plastic syringe. It has a brown jel. Requires small amounts to be applied. I think instructions stated a dap of about a nickel to quarter sized. Very happy with this product. Price was just under $8 as I recall, Mike.

Not that I have bugs, or I better not, but for my RE investors it would be good.

Is it more of a warm climate problem? I have mice but so doesn't everyone here my westies occasionally kill one ! and my traps are out I do spray with Malathion it kills everything but we go to a motel or up to our camp, it is very toxic

Oh fantastic. Hope nothing hitched a ride and came into my house. Just broke down about 12 TV's. Went from trailer to skid steer bucket. Break it down, then dump into another trailer. Repeat.

I have Hoss to thank for this. haha jk bud. But I see why you hate the big tv's!

It is always a possibility. The good news is that many of the old computers we buy probably havn't been turned on in a long time so the chance of stuff like roaches moving into them is less. The heat produced by working systems would be more likely to attract them. The cold metal frames of an idle computer are less inviting. Things like cardboard boxes are really bad for transporting roach cases though, they'll crawl into all the little holes in between the layers of cardboard and lay egg cases. Microwaves are always bad. In college when I needed to find roaches for my collections I would always check under microwaves, easiest place to find them.
