Current Prices. Sell or Hold?

Hello again. The Dr is back with yet another wonderful rookie question. The current prices at my yard of choice are as follows:

#2 insulated $1.05lb
Appliance scrap $213 gross ton
Electric Motors $.25lb

Being that I don't have a point of reference (only taken a couple loads so far) are these good, strong prices or are these relatively low?

Sounds like their still holding on price, get it while it's still there.

Same prices as down in Saginaw, except appliances are going for 200.00

Better than what my yard pays. I get 0.88 for insulated wire, 180 for steel, and .22 for motors

Prices look good except the motor price. Try to find a core buyer by you, you sould be getting .30-.35 per pound. Search core buyer on line or in the phone book.

I would say sell the wire and appliances. Break down the motors if possible. My appliances go as shred here at 215/Ton

I put a pretty good sized load of ewaste together and by the time I finally made the trip east the price had taken a drop and I took a $400. hit. It's a gamble sometimes,,,

Thanks for the suggestion happyscrapper about the core buyer. I may have to try that angle. I only have a few motors so no rush at this point I suppose. And graytruck, I don't think I'm up to breaking them down quite yet. I'm not the most equipted with tools nor time so I'm probably going to take the easy way out and flip them as whole units, for now at least, but thanks for the suggestion nonetheless.

The only week I really evaluate whether or not to hold or sell is the last week of the month because my prices may change the first week of the month. The other three weeks I make 3-4 trips a week...when the van is full or a bucket is full, it's otta here.

$220.00 GT for sheet iron
$1.00 lb #2 insulated wire.

Not too bad in my opinion. What say ye?

I just got 1.15 lb.for insulated and 220 nt for appliance and 250 nt for unprepped steel this week. The yard has a couple of the largest piles of steel that I've seen there, doesn't look like their excited about selling yet, are they waiting for it to come up some more??

sell: the prices seem pretty good compaired to here. there are some consistant seasional price trends that can be tracked by chart at kitco. other then that shop different yards for price. like any thing else price is determined by demand. some yards need different items at different times to fill their commitments.

I have found that individual scrappers and yards are just the opposit. the more scrappers in the area the lower the price, the more yards the better the price.
