I have a question, I am not sure if I am in the right place to ask this here but it is worth a try. I have been doing a bunch of reading / research. I have not come across anything on the copper that is wrapped around black stuff. Maybe some type of metal, but I have been putting it with my trash pile. Then I stuck it to my magnet and it stuck. Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

These are a type of inductor. You can unwind the copper wire and it's #2 copper. The ferrite core goes in the shred metal bucket. The donuts can be stripped quickly by hitting them with a hammer to break up the ferrite core, which makes pulling the wire off very easy.

It's been covered here somewhere... I just couldn't find it.
