Im not too sure if this has been talked about somewhere. Im sure it has but ive been thinking about trying this but im not sure. Is there any real advantage to depopulating boards?

Have a look at this thread. It should answer your question.
only valuable if you are planning to refine the pm content yourself or have enough of the pm content to ship to a refiner
Whenever I want to know if it is worth it to scrap something, I get out my pen & notepad first.
I weigh the item, then look up what I can get for it whole.
Then, I break it apart & weigh the individual components.
Next, I look up what they are worth.
I add them up & I have my answer.
Don't forget to consider what your time is worth.
Surprisingly, many times you can do just as well not breaking it down to itty bitty bits.
One man's humble opinion...

The answer to your question, in my opion is NO. You can make more money selling the board whole.
I was thinking of just doing this with all my low grade. I have a lot of low grade boards so i can spare a few for a test run to see if i make anymore off them. There is a very odd one in my collection though. Looks like gold plating on the green side. As far as my time goes, i have plenty of it. This is my only source of income so im almost always home
