Question New to computer scrapping, a few questions.

I'm sure these have all been asked before, but any help would be appreciated.
I've been starting to collect computer scrap to recover gold plated pins and gold fingers from. Should I take the time to completely separate the types of pins? I was hoping to be able to process it all with one method but I'm not sure if that's possible. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not going to be processing any time soon, I have about 2 oz of gold fingers, and 2 oz of varying quality Pins (CPU to the ones you find in PCI slots, etc). I have a lot of motherboards stacked up that I am going to be removing pins from, and I have about a dozen hard drives (some sata, most IDE). I've also taken apart a couple of phones. WIth the phone boards I've notices that some have what looks like gold plating around the edges, or in big squares somewhere on the board. Should I be putting these with my gold fingers (whole boards, and just small squares)?

If you're selling them to a refiner you would have to ask them. If you are talking about doing it yourself, this is the wrong forum. There is a gold refiners forum.

If you were ready to refine you wouldn't be asking questions. If you got this idea from watching Youtube then forget what you watched. Most of it just gives you enough info to possibly hurt yourself, family, or the neighbors. Unless your ready to read and study refining for quite a while, spend a good amount on safety equipment, then pick one of our buyers for the rest. The pins you can send to a "toll refiner" which will take a percentage and send the rest back after refining. A big refiner needs thousands of pounds of material before they will start.

You have a good start going.

What you say is true, I'm not ready to refine. That's why I came here, to learn where to gather the information required to do it properly and safely. I won't be going through with anything for at least a few years (lots of time to learn and gather safety materials). I did initially get the idea from Youtube, but it is blatantly obvious no one on there really knows a whole heck of a lot about what they are doing. Where would you recommend I spend time reading? What resources would you say would answer my questions and teach me a thing or two?

Typical give me, give me, give me entitlement attitude.

Head over to the gold refining forum, look up a gentleman named Harold_V. He will have no problem answering any question you have. Then you can come back here and tell us everything he taught you so the rest of us can make millions in gold too!!!

Too bad this entire thread turned unnecessarily nasty after the post I just quoted. Not pointing any fingers, just a general, opinion based comment...
