Unexpected score today

I haven't been on here too much lately. I pop in from time to time to see what's what.
I started back to school full time and haven't had much time for scrap.



Today I was at my storage unit breaking down the last of those dinosaur hard drives when the manager and property owner walked up and started chatting. They told me to go see one of their business tenants because he had a few old computers and a box of parts that he wanted to get rid of. So off I went. I introduced my self and let him know who sent me. He showed my what he had and said he just wanted it gone.

What I saw was he had four towers and a laptop. Plus a few boxes and totes. Looked like mostly power supplies and finger cards, a printer and some keyboards.
Super excited to get all this stuff for free. The tote that looked like mostly finger cards was actually mostly motherboards with some RAM and most of the CPUs still on board. It's easily a hundred dollars worth of scrap and it came at a time when I desperately need the cash.

Oh, plus the property owner told me to sell four used knobby truck tires that were left behind by a tenant for a 50-50 split on the sale. I'm glad I picked the right time to be there today.

Just a follow up. Got 67 pounds cleaned, packed up and now waiting for Fedex. The guy told me he just wanted the three totes back. No problem. I took back the 3 today and gave him an additional 3 I had. Just a very small way of saying Thanks.

Ya they get my stuff too. Whats the cheapest price per pound for shipping? The lowest I got is from a 68.13 lbs at for 51.81 witch equals .74 per pound, and no matter what I do that's the cheapest I can get.

If your shipping that size box regularly, I would strongly suggest saving up and trying LTL (frieght shipping). Best bet is to talk to Ewasted or Gorven, find a terminal near you. Load up your boxes and build a pallet in the driveway of the terminal. FYI - my last load that was shipped 8 or 9 hours away was between 4 and 5 cents a pound.

I live in California near the Oregon boarder. Man at that rate I could send in wire and all kinds of stuff. How big of load did u ship Mthomasdev? if you din't mind me asking. Because I have been talking to the guy I give all my cases to trying to get him to let me ship his computer components. And he has a LOT.

I screwed up my weight on a recent shipment....instead of the 68 pounds I thought I had, the actual weight was 71. Because that went over the Fedex limit of 70 pounds, it cost me an extra $11 and change. So instead of around $28, it was around $39. Lesson learned (I'm guessing I foolishly left out the box weight or something). I want to start looking at possibility of shipping larger lots as I'd like to step up my game in this business a bit.

21 pallets of per pound items, little under 12000 pounds, not counting pallets or boxes and 9 pallets of monitors, about 520 monitors.
That was FTL as opposed to LTL. I could have stacked some pallets to ship additional stuff for the same price ($705)

Wow, that does change the game a bit. This box was 69 pounds and they quoted me $28.58 for Fedex so (67 pounds of material) $0.426 per pound shipping. Pallets do cost much less. I have shipped a single pallet twice. It really isn't difficult.

I get a steady supply of about a box a month sometimes 2. that weight would put me 1/2 there, but thats not counting wire weight witch would be worth it now too.
