All in One Computers

So what do you all do with the all-in-one computers? I think I will break them down, but what about those monitors? Are they bought the same was as laptop monitors? And do I just discard the plastic shell / scrap the steel? Thanks for your input.

Not an apple, but same idea. I think these are HP and some other brands. They also don't have the CRT, they have the LCD or LED screens.

Broke down two yesterday. The screens looked exactly like laptop screens to me so I treat them as such. Then I take two of the outside screws that hold the shell to the screen back in and toss it in my tin pile. Thankfully those HP ones are easier to deal with than iMacs which are a little bit of a pain to disassemble.

Okay, thanks. I have sold plenty of laptop screens but they go with the plastic casing and I wasn't sure they would take them.

I mean the right answer is always "ask your buyer" but the way they're connected seemed very laptop is without the casing. In fact the whole thing is built like a fat laptop with less impressive boards lol

Does the all in one work? Even if not 100% its possible to sell parts from them. That is my first thing to do, test it. Mike

I will. I have several and haven't even looked at them yet. Unfortunately I think they are all different models.

I use a thumb drive with ubuntu on it. The 32bit works fine on either 32 bit and 64 bit machines. Youtube can teach you how to go about booting from a thumb drive. I'm not assuming you don't know how to do this but just in case. 73, Mike

I know nothing about ubuntu. I am a Windows gal. I guess it may be time to check it out though. I assume that would allow me to test the operations of the mother board w/ CPU and RAM, as well as the screen and keyboard?

I get probably 5 of these a year. I spoke with Mario about them once and believe that he said he would pay monitor prices for them.

About 2 years ago, I got 3 of them that had very large screens. I think they were 27" and touch screen. I went to a buyer that is no longer active on the forum. Drove down to L.I. to see him and drop off some memory and cpus. Showed him the all in one's and made a deal with him that if they were working and he could sell them, we would split the money, minus whatever he had to put into them. He was able to sell them for 450 each. Abut 50 each to get them going (hdd, etc). We each made 600 on the deal.

Mike, I found a flash drive and am going to load Lubuntu 32 bit. Thanks for that tip. I decided to use Lubuntu because the current version of Ubuntu is recommending a dual core processor which I'm not likely to find on most of the older equipment I get. Again, thank you!

I have good luck selling the all in one's on ebay. I found a guy who seemed to be repairing them. I have sold a couple for 100+ on ebay.

I have an Imac all in one, do you know if I can use any mouse and keyboard with it? it boots up and works fine from what I can tell.

I'm not sure about the keyboard, but I did use a standard mouse on one that I had here recently.

Any one at all so long as it has the right connector (iMacs have been USB for some time). A nice thing about macs is they tend to be 'plug & play' ready with monitors, printers, mouses and keyboards. Only rarely do you gotta download a driver.
