    other boards

I know computer boards, satellite and cable box boards are usually high grade, but what about boards from miscellaneous household consumer items like radios, heaters, fax machines and printers. Are they worth keeping? Thanks.

It really depends on what is on the boards... generally if the board is green on both sides and has a bunch of Integrated Circuit (IC) chips on it, or Flat Pack chips, it is probably worth saving. The value probably falls between about 1/2 the value of motherboards as a peripheral board, or closer to the full motherboard value depending on the chips. If it only has a few of these chips and is mostly other stuff it may qualify as mid-grade board and be worth about $.50/lb

Thanks for that info. They don't seem to have many chips and some are very old with all kinds of doodads on them. And many are brown -should I just pitch them?

The low grade brown boards I will rip all the good stuff off like transformers (sell for same as motors), aluminum heat sinks, wire, etc, then the rest of the board goes in with my shred.

what if the boards are broken or in pieces do you loose out? I am new and this is hard to keep all these things sorted. I almost need a laminated picture to tape to the box. So if its green on both sides its worth more, and if its full of chips its worth less but not as little as tv boards? Where can I drop off in Maine or ship to get best prices for low grade, I have a 55 gallon trash can full?

There's at least one scrap yard in Portland buying eWaste and another in NH. You'll need more than one 55 gallon can to be worth it, though. Call around for prices before settling on a yard. Read the electronics recycling section, You won't become proficient in grading overnight but you'll get good information to get started.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Scrapette- The printer, fax, some telephone, and some tv (usually the new stuff) will be worth separating from low grade. The heater, most tv, vcr, stereo, radio are usually not. Mechanic's picture of low grade is a good example of those. However, there are exceptions to almost every rule. There are high grade boards in some of the newer TV's that can even have a DLP chip like a CPU that brings good money per lb. There are really good but small thin boards around the edges of flat screens. Don't forget modems and game consoles (xbox, playstation, etc). Those usually are motherboard grade and some of them even have a hard drive in them. I even found a microwave oven that had a nice gold board for the keypad, all the places where the buttons touched were gold. The more you tear apart, the more you'll learn about it. Even boards that don't have visible gold will have good value if they are packed with chips.

From the pieces that I've taken apart, I don't think I've ever seen a "good" board in a radio or heater or fans or dehumidifiers or other electronic controlled appliance. Sometimes a bigger radio might have a heavy transformer in them or some other copper coils/chokes, but the boards are usually pretty much junk.

Fax machines and the "all in one" type printers (with the scanners built on) sure do have good stuff in them sometimes. Definitely worth a look, IMO.

Wow, I gotta read the date on the original posts!! I bet Scrapette knows all that and more by now.

Purenergypro- It usually won't matter if the boards are broken, but it's safer to ask the buyer.

I know my yard will take them anyway you bring them in, just don't crush them on purpose.
