Scrappers behaving badly

I went over to my sister’s house as she was going to be putting out stuff for the bulky / brush clean up, to pick up some metal she had for me. While I was there lots of scrappers driving by, like 10 in 40 min. A husband and wife team stopped in front of her neighbor’s house. They made a huge mess tearing open bags and boxes of stuff and found no metal. The neighbor had to come out and clean it all up, people like this give us all a bad name!

I agree Hobo, I see this a lot these days. I can't even leave one of my AC units in my front yard long enough to have an after hours beer before I scrap it out without people looking to grab it! They will be shaking my gate to get some attention so they can ask to take it away for me. If I did not have the gate it would walk away while my head was in the fridge.

I see trash ripped all apart come trash morning. It's not the racoons but the guys on bikes. The bike boys( DUI repeats) are scouts for the guy with the truck.

that kind are not scrappers thank you and dont deserve the name, I even hesitate to call them scroungers as that may give scroungers a bad name. We have to regulate or it will be done for us and to us.

Last summer I had replaced an aluminum storm door, but had no truck at the time. knowing it would be picked up in less than a half hour I decided to pass it on and set it at the street.

Now this door was alost strictly aluminum, very little steel and a large glass window... would have been a very easy job to clean.

just as I thought it was picked up in about 10 mins, BUT what do the 2 A** HOLES do, they slam the door in the road at the end of my drive to bust the glass leaving a huge mess for mo to clean!

i would have followed them to their next stop, took my door back and flipped them off as i drove away

Last week i had a scrapper behind me. He didn't know i was also a scrapper as i dont use a pickup.

I was doing 30 in a 35. Well that was just too slow for him. He zoomed past me on a double yellow. Took out 3 side mirrors on some cars with something that was sticking off the side of his truck and then slammed on his brakes infront of me because the trash i was passing had a 14 inch TV.

Little did he know the tv was already stripped. Just an empty shell

Vultures, Scum Bags, and just plane trash. These types of people are not welcome in our neighbor hood and everybody lets them know about it. Nobody puts anything out for the so called scrapper to take, instead they call me to come and get it. Its nice to have a good name in the area.

I honestly miss the days when scrap was only $40 a ton, there were not so many people scavenging and the scrap was plentiful. I actually made more money when the price was low then I am now. I was extremely busy, but I had plenty of money.

License plate number is all you need. Call the police and give them the info. Your part in a citizen's arrest.

Whoa!!!! Not cool!! I'd have gotten a plate # and called it in if I had been out to see that happen.

I've seen garbage that looks like animals have gone through it but one animal doesn't dump and tear up a whole street. I'm talking garbage bags taken out of the cans and ripped open. who does that?? Cans dumped over and garbage spilled out. It makes me sick to see and I wonder if thats why folks just aren't putting their garbage out until just before the truck picks it up. honestly, I don't blame them.

It gets crazier when scrap scavengers descend on trashed household items that have been contaminated in a flood/sewer backup scenario - - I went through one of those floods and could not believe what persons would risk for a few bucks . . . I am also a professional organizer and when we work with extreme hoarding situations where contaminated items are in play, we wear protective biohazard gear, and/or bring in a restoration company.

Please don't lump all of us "scrappers on bikes " together. I go out on my bike in my own neighborhood daily as a scout for myself. If I see something big I go get my truck. Saves a lot of fuel.
I never rip apart anything. As a matter of fact I don't even touch their trash unless I see evidence of good scrap. And if I do accidentally make a mess getting something I clean it up and reorganize it if necessary.

I was speaking about the people in my area. In these parts all you need to get a job is a drivers license, because they are so rare.
