Who knew dishwasher racks were worth money...

I was searching for a dish rack, like what restaurants use, and came across this.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Maytag-MDB-Serie...#ht_1686wt_704

    and this

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Maytag-Complete-...#ht_1127wt_938

For what you could buy a used dishwasher on craigslist, they're buying ONE rack. Perhaps a new source of revenue!?

I hate listing and packing stuff, but if a person can get this kind of return...

You just don't know what will sell, Here is an item I found in an alley(+ an old tv) waiting for the trashman. Took it home and started taking apart, then checked ebay real close and decided to take pictures and list it. Instead of maybe $4.00 in scrap ebay got me $ 46.00 for it. O happy day,,,

Wow, that's a cool thing to know. I don't know how many of those I've sent to China over the years. Looks like the Maytag brand is the hot seller from searching the completed listings.

My question is, why would someone need a dishwasher rack? What could possibly happen to them?

I think landlords especially would benefit from buying one off of ebay. I know I've lived in some dumps that have been missing really weird things, like racks. Who knows what other tenants do with them? Oh hey, maybe they're the ones selling them on ebay...

Just bumping this because I found it to be valuable information, stumbled across it via the 'similar threads' box by the way . Just found this thread and moved it to the 'more than scrap value' section.

I'll tell you another good sale on Ebay, microwave turntables I've sold them for $15-$20 when the microwave wasn't worth that

I sell quite a few dishwasher racks, mostly to property management companies. I use searspartsdirect to get a part number because so many of them interchange and then put it on the shelf. 25 bucks for a used rack versus buying a new one is a no brainer.

The turntable plates are always worth something - you can sell them on CL, too. I recently saw a stack of them for five bucks each at a junk shop. If I felt inspired, I could buy them all and resell them them online.
