Electric Oven with Microwave Built In on Top - Should I?

I have a guy who wants me to pick this up tomorrow and he's just a little further than I care to drive.

I'm not too familiar with these types of units and was wondering if if you think I should snatch it up? What to look for in them?

Any advice would be welcome. Thanks!

Well im still new to this and I say hell yea depending on how far a drive it is ( I would not drive more then 30 mins to get it .... what are the number 2 prices in your area? In my area its $10 per 100 pounds. I have not scrapped an oven yet but in googling an oven it was around 150 lbs so it should net you at least $17 assuming the microwaves adds at least 25 lbs.

Not to mention if you strip the wire and elements out of it ...

    Hope this helps

I actually just did a tear down on one of these last week. Copper wires were pretty thick, had plenty of aluminum, couple big motors, and ALOT of steel. scrap metalscrap metalscrap metalscrap metal thing was smaller, but heavier than most full size fridges.

That's good to know, rca987! I actually did pass on this one, only because it was close to an hour away from me, and he didn't have anything else to haul. But I'll know for next time if I get one that's closer.

These 'cook top' microwaves have only Ali wire in the transformer. My theory being that if both are used at the same time, it will overload the power outlet.

So they downgrade the microwave part so it uses less power, and then it only need Ali windings in it.
