How many are ya'll using diesel trucks?

Just a random thought but how many are ya'll using diesel trucks an making you own bio fuels?



We are going to be changing out all of our trucks to diesel an make bio fuels for our trucks to save on fuel cost.

Dont know about there but diesel is at $4.00 and gas is at $3.87 (got some gas yesterday)

an on a side note what is fuel costing you where your at (state an city)

Regular just started dropping here over the last few days. We are down to about 3.87. Deisel has been around 4.15 here in middle Florida.

I use a diesel fuel cost here are $3.99 but i get 20 mpg and as long as i am making money i could care less about fuel cost.

Up here in northern Ind. there is a Farm Bureau station called Countrymark and they sell biodiesel cheaper than anyone around, it comes from our "large" soybean processing plant in our county. They just don't advertise so look around for those stations. Our station is open 24 hr self serve and take credit/debit cards right at the pump. Their price runs .10 .15 cheaper

do you just filter the oil an mix it with diesel or you turn it into the bio diesel?

filter process.... no chemicals needed for a mechanical injection pump......

There was an episode on "Dirty Jobs" about this. The guy used some chemicals in the process, but don't remember what or why. All said and done though, he was paying like .50c a gallon to make it.

Petrols US$1.62 a Litre here, I think Diesol is US$1.20 a Litre.

I dunno what that converts to in Gallons, since you can squeeze 55 of them into our 44 gallon (120Litres) drum

3.79 liters per U.S. gallon. I'd do the conversion, but the phone I'd be using to calculate it is the phone I'm posting with.

Diesels have a ton of power, thanks to the turbo n/a diesels are helpless. I run gassers and reclaim lots of gas from junk cars. Maintainence is way too expensive for my taste. And as for these claims of 20 mpg I seriously doubt it. Find me a motor that gets 20 mpg while towing a 22 foot gooseneck loaded with 3 ton, it don't exist. I hear this 20 mpg crap from all you cummins guys, I'd like to see hardcore proof of this. How bout this drain out all the diesel and put in 1 gal then see if you make the 20 mile mark.

My truck is horible on the hiway only a 4 speed trany but I do get just over 750km tank towing 2ton, we run compressers and winches almost everyday so our trucks are running for just to keep the batteries charged up. Diesiel makes sense for the type of work we do, if your just crusin around on garbage day and towing cars and dont need loy of tourq..gas motors are cummins are million mile motors, our crew is half way

Ok there is alot of bad info on diesels but let me point out good and bad, facts and nothing more.

a STOCK Cummings diesel will get 16mpg to 18mpg either empty or loaded will be close to the same.

A NON stock cummings can get well above 20mpg, Mods needed, 5inch no muf or cats (delete pipe) has to be the 5.9 not the newer crap (can do it with the newer ones but takes ALOT more work/mods) water-methanol injection on the air intake as this will help to supper cool the air and the water part of it will turn to steam taking less fuel to have more "bang" and a good programmer that you can tune the truck in (not hard) and you HAVE to put gag's on. The mods here will give you around 23mpg and you will have low EGT's (high EGT will kill a diesel motor fast as hell) if you want to scrap another 1 to 2mpg add another turbo as this will also give you MORE air = power. Having two turbos will drop your EGT even more.

if you want to make a race motor and "blue print" the motor you can add bigger valve springs to make it close tighter and change out the head bolts on the motor before you try to run high boots with the twin turbo's or you will blow the top of your motor off and some other small odds and ends like that.

A well built diesel motor will run for a long time. Also the older 12 valve cummings will run on pure veg oil or motor oil with little to no mods to the truck the 24 valve ones need a few small mods to run that type of fuel.

Bad part about diesel cummings take 12 quarts of oil but this can be burned as fuel (only need to change it every 5k miles tho) higher diesel price but the truck wont let you down when your working...upfront cost on the truck...costs of upgrades but...low repair bills...things DONT brake often.

Best thing about a diesel....park it for 10years...change the batteries find the key and she will start right up....gas motor...good luck as its going to take some work and poking around.


Anyway..I will poke around alittle bit but I have been very busy and about to roll something else out that could very well be 10times bigger than Easy Recycle I have a few meeting to be in this month to get the ground work done.

tater, my 02 being the maroon truck in my pics gets 16.5 mpg pulling a trailer with at least half that time being loaded. its an automatic 24v 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton

my white truck, will get 20 to 22 empty, when the girls raced motocross with a 2000+lb slide in camper 16ft trailer and 4 fourwheelers on the trailer it would get over 14. its a five speed 12v 2wheel drive 3/4 ton

my silver truck is a whole different story but Im losing fuel somewhere and I have to prime the filter every morning, its gets 11 to 12 mpg having to prime the filter every day, its a 12v 5speed 4x4 1 ton

the new one ton that's black and blue we havnt ran it enough yet to know, but it does have a brand new turbo and cold air intake and it will really fly,

with my experience 20mpg loaded would be tough, I like you get over 50 gallons a week in gas, I eyeball that 2500 v10 my buddy pawns a couple times a year saying is that guy gonna lose that truck, he just laughs at me and says probably not
