    Fireplace Free for all

At auction this past Saturday I purchased 7 used gas fireplaces for a total of $35. Since they were used and had been sitting outside for 2-3 months I was not really interested in trying to resell these. Scrap value was all I was interested in and since the yard is less then 5 min away it would be easy flip.

When I got there this morning there were 7 or 8 pallets of misc fireplace stuff that didn't end up selling so I asked what they would take and we settled on $30 for ALL the pallets and the metal desk.

Ended up being at least 30 chimney caps of all sizes and mostly stainless to sell, bunch more scrap and a ton of misc that should have some resale value. I only had a few hours to grab all this stuff so took the easy stuff off the fireplaces and sorted thru all the other stuff and ran it to the yard...just over a ton of metal. Came back and the staff had picked up all the boxes and told me to just leave the pallets so I just had to load the keepers and I was gone.

That was a great score, who would have thought you'd do so well at an auction?

That was a good score, and if you get bored you can "start a fire" - "put out the fire", "start a fire" - "put out the fire"lol

    I love auctions!!

Though you didn't want to mess with them, I do wonder if you could have sold them as is for more than scrap.

Probably could have but I like to test the stuff I sell and that could have been a PITA not to mention moving those things around is a bit of a chore so I will just be happy piecing out the other stuff.

That makes sense. I sold a gas food warmer a few months ago. Had no idea if it worked. Tossed it on CL with a starting price of $300, stating I didn't know if it worked or not.

A guy came down out of Washington, looked it all over and gave asking price, got it home and said it worked great. Wasn't bad for $27 bucks at a local auction. Again, I love auctions!

Nice score there and yea I love auctions as well. Always different and plenty of good deals to be had, not to mention it keeps the competitive juices flowing.

So today I have some time to take a second look at some things that were on the pallets and I'm wondering what this dragon is all about, appears to be cast aluminum and for whatever reason the head and tail come off. I figured it must have something to do with the way it's made or to package them smaller.

Looked on Ebay and as you can imagine there's a shiznit load of dragons on there and there's no way I'm looking thru all of them, tried some different keywords and nothing. Went to Google next and tried the name on the bottom...nothing. It's made in China BTW but what dragon isn't, finally I punch in cast aluminum dragon and ding, ding, ding we have a winner. You fill the d a m n thing with water and put it on your wood burning stove and eventually it blows steam out it's nostrils...it's a humidifier. Now I can sleep tonight.

Resell the other stuff. Caps go for 150-400 bucks.

Put them on craigs list with pics. You'll sell them in no time. Or bring them to a dealer. He might offer you 25 bucks a pop for them

Yea that's the plan with those, both Clist and Ebay. You haven't been able to build a house with a real fireplace without jumping thru many hoops, for years in Denver metro, but there is still plenty of older existing ones that need a new hat. As for the dragon, I have to see the steam come out the nostrils just once before it goes on the block(actually have 2 of them).
