    Craigslist Dumpster Dive

So this is a week late because I just figured out how to post pics, but I thought I'd share. Last weekend I saw a CL post about free stuff from a recently vacated dentists office. Saturday morning I drove to the place, which was only a couple miles down the road and this was scattered around a couple of dumpsters. I scored 5 monitors, a tower that some idiot had cut the cord on and taken the hard drive and smashed, an APC battery backup, a mouse, a keyboard, and the best finds were 2 pieces of dental equipment. Something called an eraser that clears x-rays, and the x-ray scanner itself. I've since learned that the Scan-X goes for big money if it actually works. Anyone know a dentist that might want something like this?

I wonder why they would take the computer cord and not the ones off the APC and monitors also.

BTW, I can see the pics now.

Jimicrk, are you looking at the forum on your phone? That happens to me when I'm on my phone, I can only see about half of the pics that people post.

I do use my phone a lot but I don't use the phone app. There is an option when using my phone that allows me to view it as the full website and that's what I use. I take pictures with my phone but I use photobucket on my laptop to upload the pics when I get home.

I've seen 'cord cutters' snip the removable power cord on PCs, when all they had to do was unplug it...Never made any sense to me...

Could be the original owner cut it to make sure that nobody can take it to re-use it. My auto body shop guy i pick up from cuts most of the cord off his old power tools he gives me.

Power tools are different, he may not want his old tools resold. The computer cord unplugs and you can get super easy. I the to agree with I have to agree with DiamondN on this, it doesn't make sense.

When i first started i would cut the cords on alot of stuff i now know is alot more valuable than it may appear. Now i have a barrel full of things i think are worth more in escrap than steel prices. And hey maybe they had their snippers already in hand when they saw it just unplugs.

Good finds. If I'm looking and reading correct, cords seem to me that they were cut off the hard drive, The hard drive definitely looks smashed, that would be because the dentist office didn't know how to dispose of patient information and that way seemed to be the best to them. HIPAA rules apply here. I just hate when those HD boards also get smashed out. The cord that looks to me is cut on the back of the tower looks like a vga cord. Lazy people do that sorta dumping of equipment. Way to many of those out there.

    Happy Scrapping.

Some yards want all ends removed from the cords.

Well the drive by snippers made a mess of things, but made my work a little easier when it came to the tower because they took the cover off already. They saved me a few minutes of work at least. It made my job a lot harder with the Scan-X though, cause now I need to find a power cord and USB so I know if it works or not.
