    bottons/switches from lowgrade boards

Wondering if there is anyone that knows if there is enough gold/silver in the bottons on tv/dvd boards to mess with, and who would buy these, or refine them on a toll basis. The ones I am talking about is the power, vol up and down, channel up and down bottons, and anything else that would have a small gold/gold plated contact in them. I think some of them may be silver even. I have always left them on the board, but would remove them from low grade boards if I could find a buyer or even someone that does refinning on toll basis.

I would imagine it would all be based on the amount you had. Finding a refiner here may be hard going, might suggest you check out GRF an their section for buyers/sellers/refiners. I mean you get 20lb of gold plated buttons, one would think someone would take on the job if it was worth it. I'm sure they'll let you know if it is or isn't before you ship.

You might find one lurking here who toll refines, who will PM you. I know we have several members who are members here an GRF.

Good luck! An for the record I save all mine, for just that reason in the future when I save up enough weight.

I think Brasscatcher was the first one to break the news on the pushbuttons.
    Or maybe Bear,,,,

I think it was mentioned in a random post....perhaps BC will see this an chime in.

Or Mech will reach into his bag of tricks an magic up the link like he's known to do at times. Not like he's got much to do, what with all that snow.

Thanx OH GREAT ONE!! And yeah mech is getting a lot of snow. Wondering if anyone needs some. I can ship it to u. It just started about 30 mins ago here in central ky, and already close to an inch!!!

If u are in a warm area and need snow, then maybe Sir can send u some of HIS snow (sand painted white).

Hey Mseashell...My turn to help you out...kinda..

"Something to look for...when breaking down dvd drives on the low grade board look for those little push buttons. They will have silver contacts and once in a while gold ones. Now SirS can have a "oh my God its silver bucket" too. If I ever find platinum that will get a "Holy S**t its platinum" lablel.

On a side note I also found a ceramic silver window eprom on one of the dvd boards today, so don't rip and throw in the pile, take a sec and turn them over you may find a hidden goodie once in a while."

    and..here's one from Bear. http://www.scrapmetalforum.com/elect...d-buttons.html

First talks about the discs..kind of, an the second talks about the gold ball in switches. I think there is even a older one from BC, but he'll chime in likely if so.

    Enjoy.

Sorry I am late to the party but my head got stuck in the door and i misplaced the butter to get it unstuck....anyway yes those buttons will be silver/copper or gold/copper. The majority will be of the silver ones. They are found just about anywhere there is a pushbutton. I pluck them from all my low grade boards from tv,vcr, floppy drives etc. I am still collecting them to eventually refine with some other plated materials I have. You may check ebay to see if they are selling there. I don't know what weight would make it worth to refine just those discs since it will take alot to make a pound, but they are everywhere and on most electronics that we scrap.
