I feel like an idiot! I reread what decjr wrote and I guess I missread what he was talking about. He has a bunch of grill propane tanks to get rid of, not big ones for homes!!! That makes sense, sorry but here are answers to your questions:

I was refuring more to the tanks that heat homes than the small ones for grills. The propane tanks for grills are typically 20 lbs and if you exchange a tank for one that is full you will pay around 20 dollars. If you buy brand new they can be more spendy like 40 dollars. I am not sure why they are expensive to buy a brand new grill propane tank but I can only imagine it is because the demand for them is fairly regular so they can charge what they want.

It has been a while for me, I like charcoal. If you bring in the tank and exchange it around here it is around 20 dollars. Here the propane cost is mild and to fill up my 500 gallon tank this spring was around 650 dollars.
