I have coaxial wire that i stripped
And found out its magnetic so its not copper what is it and is it worth stripping or what is the best thing to do with coaxial

Yards by me wont take it. So I mix it in with my steel.

mine takes coax. i had some magnetic stuff (they checked) and told me to throw it in my light iron pile. they took the non magnetic- got .13 cents a pound if i remember right.

yea it was kind of a bummer the first time i found a large quantity of coaxial cable I stripped it and found that pretty copper color I love so much but was really bummed when I saw the magnet stick to it. The silver/gray mesh around it is aluminum, but all else being equal I find its a better use of my time to strip wire I know to be copper and just throw the coaxial in my iron pile.

Light Iron or Tin, and totally not worth it. I had a friend who was a cable tv installer and had spools of this stuff. When he got fired he gave them to me to scrap and I was like oh sweet there's a bit of copper in there. Nope. I made 8 bucks and since we split it 50/50, well you get the idea. It's poo.

It is sad really on coaxial....I too was not aware of the issues with it....I was just tossing it into our wire bin and taking it in with the rest of the coated wire....But my new employee, who has a lot of experience with scrap, told me that it is not copper wire inside....He then stripped a piece and showed me....Our yard has us toss it off with the tin weight when we take in empty computer towers.

Yep, the stuff from cable tv installs, is copper coated steel with that crap mesh. The good stuff is cb radio, ham antenna installs. That stuff is copper over copper, hope that helps,
As an added, the end connectors on cb -ham coax is zinc or silver plated brass.

Learn something new every day. The coax I pulled over and removed from a trash can was likely a waste of time, though over time it all adds up.

At least I won't waste time stripping it.

if you can find it all the time i would save it up. it all adds up after a while.

Cut the metal ends off and put it with your number 3 wire.

Yeah what you had was copper clad steel.The best coaxial cabloe to get is from satilite's they are 100% solid copper.
