I'm always watching these auctions here in the DC metro area and these things end up going for about $10-$20 a tower for these kinds of auctions.

I think Olddude started a thread about how everyone is over shooting these auctions for scrap prices.
They are definitely looking to refurb and resell.

But I'll definitely put my bid in.

could be a good one, a bit out of my area, I'm more Richmond based, though that used to be my stomping grounds. When I was a steel worker I helped put the new roof on R.E.Lee high school, back about ten years ago, when they were putting in all the new over passes in the mixing bowl.

Nevermind, I managed to figure it out.

Normally, I don't buy things, but if the price is right.

So easy a caveman could do it. Not much different then most websites you set up an account for.

I saw you bid on the first 2, but not the 3rd? Can I ask why?

Also, where near me are you located at?

Well as funny as it may sound, I tried it a few times, but I am guessing it was a different, but similar site. I am all signed up now.

ok, someone want to tell me what proxy bidding is?

Every time I entered a big for this: http://www.publicsurplus.com/sms/auc...iew?auc=675784, it automatically tells me that prgiva is using proxy bidding and automatically outbid me?

I would bid on the 3rd one, but at $63, I doubt there be any profit in it.

Proxy bidding is bidding by computer up to his hi dollar amount, and then it'll stop. Otherwise it'll keep bidding automatically as soon as you do. He doesn't have to be present.

    Thanks.

Makes sense, and pretty smart actually.

There is a LOT of stuff in that category, but so far, nothing else is really catching my "eye"

When ever possible I like to be at my computer for that last 5 minutes rather then leave a proxy bid for someone to run up. And as I mentioned somewhere before, if there is no action on something they can and will lower the price, so no sense in bidding sometimes till the last minute.

I saw several auctions for multiple stainless steel sinks with the works. Looked like commercial types to me. All for CHEAP. Got to make sure I will have my truck and trailer when the auctions end first.

You own an auction site and don't know what proxy bidding is? Interesting.

On the sinks, they're money makers. I've bought/sold 4 or 5 in the last few years.

One restaurant folds up and another tries to open, and they need a sink!

    Until now, no.

Obviously if I had known, I wouldn't have asked.

For all I knew, it was something specifically for that site alone.

If I am expected to know 100% of everything of owning any business, no one would own any business. Things change all the time. Not saying that proxy bidding is something new, but none the less, the point is, you do learn something new all the time.

I personally agree with KZBell. I would never use proxy bidding. I love technology, but it is only so good. Just like being a human, technology has its flaws.

Lets say you choose proxy bidding. Lets say you choose to set you max at $500 for an item. Lets say that the server had a hiccup, and instead of stopping at $500, it would keep bidding till you hit say $1,000. Lets say the item is only work $600, but you were okay with $100 profit. Well now, you will be out $400 in the event you cant sell the item for $1,100.

Also, I wasn't even thinking about selling the sinks to a restaurant, but that is a good idea. I am not sure if brand new places around here would buy used equipment, but places that need a replacement, I am sure would.

I actually bid on all 3. I'm losing the 3rd one and have no interest in getting back in it.
I'm sure someone is going to up the bids on these as the end comes around any ways.
I've won 2 auctions of worth on this site... all probably because the people that are shipping them out were too busy picking up there super big loads. and left the little one alone.

    Just asking out of curiosity.

Good luck with both of them.

I go through Fairfax multiple times per week. I live in Manassas Park, near the sheetz and car wash. Small work.

By office, you referring to a scrap metal office, or something different?

Where is it at, or the name? Perhaps I have been before.

Not a bad score. I am going to bid on some stainless steel sinks soon.

Don't mind me asking, what site did you score that off of?

I believe to 3 of them now. Will see how it all pans out.

publicsurplus.com and govdeals.com are the ones i usually am on. its tough pickings though.

My office is located off of 28 and 234 behind the 7-11.
I haven't officially opened the doors to the public yet as i'm still putting together the company.

    hopefully soon enough though!

I know where you are going to be at. You are going to be in the big building right behind the 711? They have a remax in it right?

Well, since we are so close, perhaps we will have the opportunity to work together in the future on something. Definitely enough to go around.
